Gurugram Man Stops for Nature Call, Drowns in Stormwater Drain: Body Found 400m Away
A 44-year-old man died after falling into an uncovered stormwater drain while stopping for a bathroom break.
Gurugram: A horrific incident occurred on Sohna Road in Bhondsi on Wednesday evening, leaving a community in shock. Ajay Raghav, a 44-year-old man, lost his life after falling into an open stormwater drain while stopping for a bathroom break.
The drain, maintained by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), was left uncovered near the Ghamroj toll plaza, where this incident occurred.
Ajay Raghav's body was found 400 meters away from the scene, near the Ghamroj toll plaza. A negligence case has been filed against the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in connection with the incident. Raghav, 44, was returning home with his nephew when he stopped by the road around 8:30 p.m. The open stormwater drain, obscured by floodwaters, was not visible from a distance.
The stormwater drain, which is usually covered with cement slabs in other areas, was left open near the Ghamroj toll plaza. The flow of water contributed to the drain's invisibility. Raghav’s nephew, who was nearby, raised an alarm and alerted the authorities.
