'Who Are You, What South?' Samantha Recalls Top Designers Turning Her Down For Clothes

Samantha Ruth Prabh is currently on a career break after she was diagnosed with myositis in 2022. Since then, the actress has been focusing on her health and taking up only a few projects. Recently, The Family Man actress shared shocking details about how designers at one point in time denied sourcing their garments to South actors.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s revelation about her struggle to get designer clothes

There was a time when India's top designers vehemently ignored requests of South actors to give them outifts and had no idea who they were.

In an interview with Gulte, the Kushi actress said, “It’s absolutely wonderful. There were times when we South actors couldn’t source garments from designers because they were like, ‘Who are you? South actor? What South?."

Samantha shifts focus on her health

In an interview with Elle, the Yashoda actress shared that she is proud of the women in the entertainment industry, who are reclaiming their space. She is glad to be part of this change and asked for better roles and fully-fledged characters.

Addressing why she is doing fewer movies, she said, "I’ve always felt that it is better to do fewer films with substance than a bunch without. I believe breaking stereotypes is very important, so I was particular about not doing the same thing; the audience would get bored."

Samantha Ruth Prabhu is currently gearing up for the upcoming series Citadel: Honey Bunny, which is helmed by Raj & DK. The action dhow is the Indian version of Russo Brothers' produced mothership series Citadel, starring Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden.

Apart from Samantha, the series will also feature Varun Dhawan, Emma Canning, Sikandar Kher and Saqib Saleem among others. The show will premiere this year on OTT platform Amazon Prime Video.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu was last seen in alongside Vijay Deverakonda in Telugu romantic comedy film titled Kushi.
