Raayan Box Office Collection Day 2: Dhanush Starrer Lagging Behind Deadpool & Wolverine
Raayan surpassed the opening day collection of Dhanush’s previous film, Karnan (₹10.4 crore), becoming the actor’s biggest opener at the box office.

Dhanush starrer Raayan, marking his 50th movie, hit the theatres on July 26, alongside Deadpool and Wolverine. The Hollywood superhero flick might have affected the business of Raayan but it didn't stop Dhanush from registering the biggest opening of his career with his action-thriller. The Tamil movie written and directed by Dhanush himself, earned ₹13.65 crore at the domestic box office with ₹11.85 crore in the Tamil language. The movie was expected to witness a spike in the collection on the second day but saw only a 1.47 per cent hike.

Raayan, marking Dhanush's second directorial venture, minted ₹13.85 crore, according to early estimates reported by Sacnilk. The language-wise breakdown is awaited. Seeing the second-day collection, it seems the movie is facing tough competition with Deadpool and Wolverine. Adding the two-day collection, the total stands at ₹27.5 crore, in India. The movie had an overall 60.85% Tamil occupancy on Saturday with a maximum reported in Trichy (88.25 per cent).

Dhanush delivers the biggest opening of his career
According to Sacnilk, the film opened at ₹13.65 crore with ₹11.85 crore in Tamil, ₹1.6 crore in Telugu and ₹0.2 crore in Hindi. Raayan surpassed the opening day collection of Dhanush’s previous film, Karnan (₹10.4 crore), becoming the star’s biggest opener. The action-thriller had an overall Tamil occupancy of 58.65 per cent with over 79.99 per cent theatre occupancy at night. The film witnessed massive occupancy in Chennai (72per cent), followed by Puducherry (74.75 per cent), Mumbai (61 per cent), Bengaluru (40.75 per cent), and Delhi-NCR (20 per cent).

What else do we know about Raayan?
Apart from Dhanush, the movie also stars S. J. Suryah, Kalidas Jayaram, Sundeep Kishan, Prakash Raj and Selvaraghavan in pivotal roles. The film follows Kathavaraayan "Raayan", a fast-food hotel owner in North Chennai, who hunts down the gangs who ruined his family earlier. The movie has earned mixed reviews from critics, who praised the actor for his performance, direction, screenplay and score, but criticised Raayan's storyline and writing in the post-interval portions.
