In the video, a fan appeared to attempt to kiss Jin on the cheek after hugging him and whispering something in his ear. Jin skillfully avoided the kiss and continued to smile and interact with other fans, maintaining his cheerful demeanor despite the awkward moment.

This event marked Jin's first public appearance after completing his military training. Speaking to the fans present, Jin expressed his desire to host another similar event in the future. "Maybe right now I can only hug 1,000 people, but in the future before I die, I want to do it again," he said.

Following his discharge ceremony on Wednesday, Jin hosted a live session on Weverse where he discussed his idea for the "free hug event." He revealed that the idea originated from him and explained how it came to fruition. Jin mentioned that he proposed the idea to the FESTA organizers last year, but initially, it faced criticism due to safety concerns. Eventually, the organisers agreed to a limited event for 1,000 fans.

Jin is the first member of BTS to complete his military service. J-Hope is also nearing the completion of his enlistment, with RM, Jimin, V, Suga, and Jungkook scheduled to be discharged next year.
